Average height of a male UK adult

Warg2 of UK writes: hey solid gold factmaster! could you resolve a long-standing (and somewhat tedious) point of disagreement between me and a friend who lives in Germany please... what is the average height of a fully-grown adult male in the UK (ie the average without babies and small children)?

This is one that is easy to clear up: the often quoted average of 177.5cm includes babies and small children. The average for fully-grown adult males is 189.7cm. If it helps this is 5.3% higher than the German equivalent and 8.0% higher than the French average. Hope this finally resolves your discussion!

hi, i am the stubborn friend. thanks for providing the stats but could you post the official link to the study you refer to? thanks in advance.

hi there... the statistics came from the UK Height Society's Longitudinal Study 2006. This is good yes?

Anonymous said...

hello, thanks a lot. do you have an internet link which would take me to the study?

what is weird is that this study shows that between 16 and 24, the average is at around 178 cm... weird, no: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height

(look at UK study - 16-24)

oh, and a happy new year!

Sorry, but there is absolutely no way that the UK average height for men is over 6'2"! I'm sure that the oft-quoted value of about 5'10" really is based only on fully-grown men. I'd love to see a link to this UK Height Society's Longitudinal Study 2006.

what the hell? lokk anywhere on the internet and you'll see that the adverage UK male is 5:10 or 5:9
definatly not 6:2

that's ridiculus
only the swedes are that tall on adverage
