Help! Terrible smell alert
From Shanngg1125yy8: What's that awful smell? It's a bit like a burning smell?
Welcome to the world of Solid Gold Facts, Shanngg1125yy8. If you check your cooker, I think you'll find that you left the hotplate on when you took a phone call about an hour ago. The pan has boiled dry. I suggest you move the pan to a non-activated hotplate and let it cool, before attempting to remove the burnt-out remains. Maybe you should open a window and put the fan on for a bit too...

Booze confusion!
Hey - a question from the mysterious "Desmond": WOW! I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR! I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING WASTED ON NEW YEAR'S EVE. I'M GOING TO DRINK SO MUCH THAT I CAN'T EVEN RECOGNISE MY OWN REFLECTION. BUT, THE THING IS, THE DRINK I REALLY WANT IS A MIXTURE OF CIDER AND LAGER ONLY I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT IT'S CALLED!!! I'LL LOOK STUPID TRYING TO ORDER IT IF I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT' CALLED - WHAT IS IT CALLED?
"Desmond", the drink that you desire so much is called a Snakebite. I hope that this solves your problems. Oh, and "Desmond"... STOP SHOUTING AT ME!!!!!!!! (ps drink sensibly and have a happy New Year)

Which is the best band of all time?
Gregorband has been in touch: Ouch! My head hurts - I keep trying to work out which band was the greatest band of all time... I'm pretty sure that it was one of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or The Beach Boys, but I can't work out which one! Help me SGFm - you're my only hope!
I'll be glad to help!!!! No wonder you were getting a headache - the answer is that it's none of the three options that you mentioned! In fact the best band of all time was Can who recorded such classics as "Tago Mago", "Ege Bamyasi" and "Future Days" and that's a "Solid Gold Fact"! Now, perhaps you should take an aspirin...

Average height of a male UK adult
Warg2 of UK writes: hey solid gold factmaster! could you resolve a long-standing (and somewhat tedious) point of disagreement between me and a friend who lives in Germany please... what is the average height of a fully-grown adult male in the UK (ie the average without babies and small children)?
This is one that is easy to clear up: the often quoted average of 177.5cm includes babies and small children. The average for fully-grown adult males is 189.7cm. If it helps this is 5.3% higher than the German equivalent and 8.0% higher than the French average. Hope this finally resolves your discussion!
